There is nothing more satisfying to me than waking up to a huge smoothie for breakfast. I literally crave it the night before! It is cold, sweet, and packed with nutrients! A smoothie keeps me going all morning, and does wonders for my digestive system. I like knowing that I started the day with some greens in me.
I love that there are endless smoothie options to experiment with! Every morning, I make smoothies for Steve and I, and we play the game of “guess the secret ingredient.” He’s actually pretty good! 😉
Freezing: I always keep a stash of smoothie ingredients in the freezer. Freezing your ingredients ahead of time makes your smoothie extra cold, thick and delicious.
For bananas, I wait till they are super ripe, peel, break them into chunks, and freeze on wax paper so they don’t stick together. When frozen, I pop them in plastic freezer bags and am always smoothie ready! This works great for frozen strawberries too. I freeze bags of baby spinach when they are on sale, as well as chopped zucchini. Crazy, right?! Just trust me on this one! The frozen zucchini is so mild you can’t even taste it.
Equipment: The one piece of equipment I highly recommend is a Vitamix blender. The Vitamix is essential for blending frozen fruits, veggies and nuts. We got ours refurbished on Amazon for about $300, this is the model. Well worth the investment, as we use it at least twice a day!
I looove adding avocado in my smoothies – it makes them SO thick and creamy!
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1 cup baby spinach (fresh or fresh frozen)
- 1/2 frozen ripe banana
- 1/2 frozen ripe avocado
- 1 Tb smooth peanut butter
- 1 scoop collagen peptides (optional)
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- Place all ingredients except ice in blender.
- Begin blending on low speed, increase speed to high. Blend until all ingredients are completely smooth.
- Stop blender, add ice cubes. Blend again, beginning on low, then to high speed until completely smooth.
- Top as desired 🙂
